Marketing Teardown · 16 Aug 2026

How Higgsfield grew to $300M ARR in 11 months.

No performance marketing. No app-store ads. Just named viral presets, 10,000 paid creators, prompt-sharing built into the product, and a YouTube strategy that teaches people to get rich with the tool. Here is the entire playbook, including the part that blew up.

01 — Origin

Ex-Snap AI chief. $166M exit. Then the fastest-growing AI company ever.

Higgsfield was founded in October 2023 by Alex Mashrabov, the man behind Snapchat's face filters. The company claims it grew faster than OpenAI, Slack and Zoom at the same stage.

FOUNDER

Alex Mashrabov

Born in Andijan, Uzbekistan. Started coding at 10. Top-3 in the world in competitive programming by age 20. Co-founded AI Factory, sold to Snap for $166M in 2020 — that tech became Snapchat's face filters and Cameos. Ran Snap's generative AI division and shipped the MyAI chatbot to 150M+ users. Industry nickname: "the godfather of consumer generative AI."

CO-FOUNDERS

Yerzat Dulat & Mahi de Silva

Yerzat Dulat — Kazakh AI researcher, chief research officer, leads generative video. Mahi de Silva — veteran of Apple, NVIDIA and Triller, joined as chief strategy officer. Team of ~100: 11 international competitive-programming winners, a 16-person model team that trained their first model on just 32 GPUs in 9 months.

The name

"Particles that pass through the Higgs field gain mass; ideas that pass through the Higgsfield platform gain mass as videos."

Funding

Three rounds. Total raised: ~$138M. Kazakhstan's first unicorn.

02 — The numbers

Zero to $300M ARR in eleven months.

The web launch in March 2025 was the inflection point. Every month after, the curve went nearly vertical.

ARR growth, Mar 2025 → Feb 2026

Company-reported figures. Cashflow positive at 5 months. Only ~$500K total marketing burn in 10 months.

03 — Instagram

The Reels engine: named presets that become trends.

@higgsfield.ai — ~1M followers, 466 posts, 2 following. Reels-first, almost zero static content. The profile IS the product demo.

TACTIC 01

Comment-to-get hooks

Captions like "If you want to try this on @higgsfield.ai, comment 'AI' and I'll send..." drive comment volume and DM funnels. Free-tier promo reels: "now completely free for a limited time."

TACTIC 02

The meta-hook

"This reel crossed a million views — edited entirely by AI." The tool markets itself as the thing that made the viral reel. The marketing message is the output of the product.

TACTIC 03

62+ named viral presets

One-click, meme-able VFX templates instead of prompt lessons. Each preset is a shareable trend. EARTH ZOOM (July 2025) was the breakout — third-party tutorial sites and YouTube channels did the distribution for free.

CAMPAIGN 01

Qatar Airways — ~69M Instagram views

A 9-second clip of giant planes wrapped in lights. Made by creative director Nikita Vantorin of agency Vertex CGI. Forbes cites it as the flagship viral example of what Higgsfield output looks like in the wild.

CAMPAIGN 02

"Miniature Miami" — ~700M Instagram views

July 2026. Posted by "wonderfulworldai," captioned to imply a hand-built physical model — "No CGI. No compositing." It out-viewed every MrBeast Instagram reel, got investigated by PetaPixel, and turned out to be an ad for Higgsfield. The peak of "shock-viral" — and the exact tactic that caused their later brand collapse.

PILLAR 01

AI-influencer / faceless content

Soul ID avatars and virtual influencers. "Did you also get fooled? AI influencers like these are going viral." They sell the illusion, then reveal it.

PILLAR 02

Celebrity social proof

Madonna, Snoop Dogg and Will Smith using the tool (organic, per the company). Agencies for Nike, Coca-Cola and McDonald's claimed as users.

PILLAR 03

Open-by-default prompt sharing

"Explore the inside of every project — see all prompts, assets and how each project was created." Every public video exposes its full prompt stack. A Midjourney-style remix loop, but on video.

04 — YouTube

350K subs. Nearly daily uploads. The tutorials are the ads.

YouTube is a brand and education channel, not a revenue channel — it earns maybe $1–2K/week. That is not the point.

350Ksubscribers (Aug 2026)
~6.9videos per week
14.6Mtotal views
~3.5%engagement per upload
FORMAT 01

"Learn X in N minutes" tutorials

"Learn 98% of Higgsfield AI in 18 Minutes." "How to do Earth Zoom Effect." "How to Write Perfect Prompts." Screen-recorded walkthroughs: type a sentence, get a cinematic clip.

FORMAT 02

Income-claim hooks

"Recreate a $39,500/Month Faceless YouTube Channel With AI." "I Used Higgsfield + Claude Fable 5 to Build a $39,500/Month Channel." They teach people to make money with the tool — and the tutorial itself is a self-sustaining ad.

FORMAT 03

Open-sourced "Originals"

"ONEIRIC" — a 20-minute sci-fi short film, fully open-sourced with prompts and assets. "Zephyr" episodic series. Shot-by-shot breakdowns turn prompt engineering into watchable content.

DISTRIBUTION

AI educators as a channel

Mashrabov: "We work closely with AI educators and creators, who act as natural distribution channels." Channels like iamAImaster and blake.ridder make organic tutorials and comparisons. No ad spend required.

AUTHORITY

Borrowed Hollywood credibility

The $1M Global Film Festival's jury: Edwin Catmull (Pixar co-founder), Alex Proyas, Phedon Papamichael, Paul W.S. Anderson. Oscar-grade names validating a two-year-old startup.

05 — The funnel

Social → free tier → paywall. Creators are the acquisition engine.

No traditional performance marketing. The entire acquisition machine is the Earn program: 10,000 creators commissioned in 20 days, 50,000 videos submitted, $1M+ paid out, 3B+ impressions.

STEP 01

Higgsfield Earn — pay for engagement

Creators link social accounts, join campaigns, get paid on real-time engagement (shares, likes, views). First 20 days: 10,000 creators, 50,000 videos. Launch posts offered $200 per share with pre-assembled media kits. 90% approval rate. ~$3M in free promo codes on top.

STEP 02

Credit-based freemium

Free tier → credits → plans up to ~$125/month. Black Friday 65% off, some 85% off. Early lifetime deals at $80–100 "unlimited." Stripe Billing chosen in March 2025 specifically to escape app-store fees after the mobile-to-web pivot.

RETENTION 01

Prompt-sharing remix loop

Public project → copy the prompt → generate → publish → get featured → followers. Every user's output becomes onboarding material for the next user.

RETENTION 02

Model-freshness loop

"New state-of-the-art model integrated within 24 hours." They aggregate 12+ third-party models (Sora 2, Veo 3.1, Kling, WAN) and integrate each new SOTA within a day — users return instead of churning to the newest tool.

RETENTION 03

Challenge gamification

Discord daily and weekly challenges with credit prizes. Build in public → win credits → make a better film. Monthly awards run by team, "Ambassadors" and "Power Users."

PIVOT

Pivot the audience, not the product

Mobile "Diffuse" (selfie gag app, Apr 2024) → desktop "Cinema Studio" (Mar 2025) for marketers and agencies. Same tech, 100x the willingness to pay. That pivot is the entire ARR curve above.

06 — The dark side

The part that blew up. Do not copy this.

"Loudest player wins" worked for eleven months. Then Forbes came. February 2026: X account suspended, the internet renamed them "Shitsfield AI."

01

Pay-for-engagement without review

The Earn program paid creators for any engagement — producing racist and offensive content (Shrek, Moana, Mickey clips; nonconsensual deepfakes of Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Trump). The CSO's actual quote: "It's more controversial content that gets attention." Meta-lesson: the content you incentivize is the content you get blamed for.

02

Fake demos and fake "unlimited"

Media kits passed off Envato stock templates as AI-generated — microwaving frozen food in a "chef-prepared" restaurant. Then 65%-off "unlimited" plans were throttled to unusability, and on 19 Dec 2025 a mass account-ban wave hit lifetime/annual users ("Christmas Gift from a Unicorn"). $1.35M later refunded.

03

Brash anti-human messaging

The Vibe Motion launch bragged the tool "ended 20 creative jobs." It antagonized the exact creators the platform depends on. The backlash was immediate and public.

04

Reputation is a lagging indicator

AR revenue kept climbing through the scandal — $300M ARR the same month as the Forbes exposé. The bill arrives later. Recovery moves since: mandatory legal review of all marketing, a content-scoring tool for likeness/IP risk, and the $1M prestige Film Festival with an Oscar jury.

07 — The playbook

Nine moves worth stealing.

01

Click-to-create beats prompt-to-create

Named presets + one click beat 100-word prompts for mass adoption. Remove all friction.

02

Name the trend

A named, meme-able effect becomes a trend people copy. The trend IS the marketing. "EARTH ZOOM" did more than any ad budget.

03

Aggregate, don't build the model

Orchestrate 12+ third-party models and integrate each new SOTA within 24 hours. Distribution beats model quality.

04

Pay creators, not ad platforms

10K creators, $1M paid, 3B+ impressions — cheaper and faster than performance marketing, when incentives reward quality.

05

Pivot the audience

Same tech, new buyer. Selfie gag app → agency studio. 100x willingness to pay.

06

Open by default

Public prompts + open-sourced films create a remix loop and free education.

07

Teach the money

Income-claim tutorials turn the tool into a money machine for users. The tutorial is a self-sustaining ad.

08

Ship velocity as marketing

4–7 releases a week, 200+ in 11 months. The brand is perpetually "new" and feeds its own news cycle.

09

Borrow authority

Oscar juries, celebrity users, an OpenAI blog feature. Credibility you haven't earned yet can be rented from people who have.
